Members participating in Club trips must do so in 4WD vehicles that satisfy the following requirements:

  • Vehicles must be roadworthy and fully maintained.
  • Vehicles are expected to have a fully operational, permanently mounted UHF radio.
  • Vehicles must have front and rear recovery points.
  • The minimum amount of recovery equipment required is:
    • snatch strap
    • rated shackles
    • gloves
    • tyre gauge
    • compressor
    • shovel
  • Road tyres are acceptable on trips rated “Easy” and some “Medium” trips. On all other trips All Terrain tyres would be necessary. The Trip Details on the Club website will provide details of specific tyre requirements.
  • Trip specific vehicle requirements will be outlined in the Trip Details and/or Trip Briefing notes forwarded to you.
  • It should also be noted that on club trips, the Trip Leader always has the right to veto who participates. This is intended, for example, as a safeguard against the possibility of somebody having an unsuitably equipped vehicle for the planned event, e.g., inadequate recovery gear, inappropriate tyres, damaged vehicle, etc.
  • Any queries relating to vehicle or recovery equipment requirements should be discussed with the trip leader.
  • For remote outback trips vehicles may be inspected several weeks prior to departure to detect potential problems and help ensure the vehicle is adequately prepared for the trip.
